THE LEGEND OF THE GOLDEN SNAIL

Halo Sahabat Britania.
Kami ini kita akan belajar tentang sebuah cerita dari tanah Jawa.
Pasti kalian semua sudah tahu ya...
Sebuah cerita legenda berjudul The Golden Snail

THE LEGEND OF THE GOLDEN SNAIL

Long time ago, there was a couple, a husband and wife. They were Prince Raden Putra and Dewi Limaran. They lived in a palace, and Prince Raden Putra's father was the king of the kingdom.

One day, Dewi Limaran was walking around in the palace garden when she suddenly saw a snail. It was ugly and disgusting.

"Yuck!" said Dewi Limaran and threw it into a river.

However, she made a big mistake because she didn't know that the snail was actually an old and powerful witch.

The witch had the ability to transform herself into anything, and she was angry with Dewi Limaran. The witch put a spell on her, turning her into a golden snail. Maybe the golden snail was shiny and had a beautiful color, but it was still a snail. The witch then threw the snail into the river as an act of revenge.

What happened to the golden snail and Dewi Limaran? The golden snail drifted away in the river and got caught in a net. An old woman who was fishing used her net to catch some fish and was surprised to find a golden snail in it. She took it home and went to sleep. When she woke up in the morning, she was surprised to find that her house was in good condition, the floor was mopped, and there was food on the table. She was very curious.

"The person who did this is very kind," she said to herself.

It happened again every morning. One night, she decided to stay up late and saw the golden snail transform into a beautiful woman. The old woman was confused and a little afraid.

She approached the woman and asked, "Who are you, young girl?"

"I am Dewi Limaran, Ma'am. I am cursed by a powerful witch. I can only change back into a human at night," explained Dewi Limaran.

"The spell can be broken if I hear the melody from the holy gamelan," she continued.

The old woman was surprised and rushed to the palace to tell Prince Raden Putra about his lost wife. He had been searching for her everywhere but couldn't find her.
He prayed and meditated, asking God to give him the holy gamelan to break the witch's spell.

After several days of praying and meditating, God granted his wish and gave Raden Putra the holy gamelan.
He immediately brought it to the old woman's house and played it beautifully.
A beautiful melody filled the air, and miraculously, the golden snail turned back into the beautiful Dewi Limaran. Raden Putra jumped and hugged Dewi Limaran tightly.

The couple was overjoyed to be together again and thanked the old woman for her kindness. As a token of their gratitude, they asked her to stay in the palace.

THE LEGEND OF RORO JONGGRANG

Halo Sahabat Britania.
Kami ini kita akan belajar tentang sebuah cerita dari tanah Jawa.
Pasti kalian semua sudah tahu ya...
Sebuah cerita legenda berjudul Roro Jonggrang.

THE LEGEND OF RORO JONGGRANG

Long, long time ago, there was a kingdom in Prambanan ruled by a wise king named King Baka. The king had a daughter named Roro Jonggrang. She was a princess who was famous for her beauty, and many kings wanted to marry her.

At that time, the people in Prambanan lived happily and peacefully. However, one day, a man named Bandung Bondowoso conquered Prambanan and killed King Baka in battle. Bandung Bondowoso knew about the king's beautiful daughter and decided not to kill her because he had a plan. He wanted to marry the princess.
Bandung Bondowoso was a very powerful man, and his soldiers included not only humans but also genies.

He said to Roro Jonggrang, "Princess, I have defeated your kingdom. Now all of Prambanan is mine. I will not kill you unless you become my wife."

Roro Jonggrang, filled with anger, replied, "What? Become your wife? A man who killed my father? I'd rather die than marry you!"

She felt helpless and wanted to escape. On one hand, she didn't want to marry Bandung Bondowoso, but on the other hand, she feared that he would destroy the entire kingdom and harm the people of Prambanan.
However, Roro Jonggrang came up with an idea.

She said, "Okay, Bandung Bondowoso, I will marry you, but on one condition. You are a powerful man, so I think it's easy for you to build a magnificent palace with a thousand temples in it, all in just one night. If you can do it, I will be your wife."

Bandung Bondowoso confidently replied, "That's a piece of cake. I can do anything for you, my lovely princess. Don't worry, I will make it happen."

He immediately called his genie soldiers to help him and commanded them to build the palace.
As they started building, the palace made terrible noises, and it seemed like they would finish their work before sunrise. Roro Jonggrang became worried. She prayed for help and then had an idea. She ordered her servants to perform their morning routines as if morning had already come.

"Burn the straw, pound the mortar, and make as much noise as possible," Roro Jonggrang instructed her servants.

All the servants followed her orders, creating the illusion of dawn. The genies, thinking that the sun was rising, believed it was time to leave.

"It's already dawn. We have to go," said the leader of the genies to Bandung Bondowoso.

The genies immediately stopped their work and ran from the "sunlight," not realizing it was just the fire burning the straw and not the actual sun. Bandung Bondowoso couldn't stop the genies from leaving, and he became furious, realizing that Roro Jonggrang had tricked him.

"Roro Jonggrang! You tricked me. You broke your promise! I already have 999 temples. I just need one more temple. Now I curse you to complete the temples," he angrily declared.

He pointed his finger at Roro Jonggrang and recited some mantras.
Suddenly, Roro Jonggrang's body turned into stone, completing the construction of the temple.

To this day, the temple still stands in the Prambanan area of Central Java, known as the Roro Jonggrang temple.
